Title: I Felt Nice by Observing this Thought Process

Well I was all alone in my home as my kid and wife went to her MAYAKE for few days (I am feeling lucky...giggle)
Sitting in a quite room, I thought lets do some analysis of what I have learned in my EPGP course.
I was observing the sudden flow of thoughts going through my mind which I would like to share. Yes, my EPGP participants, we are learning!!!!.
Well I will start with reading the financial statements (Balance sheet & P/L account) of a company and then do the ratio analysis which will enable me to learn from the past and set some target for the future. Regarding the
future performance I can use some forecasting technique say time series or regression or percent sales etc. Well these technique we learned in OM-II and FM-II ? Oh Yes.
With the above information, the organization can be divided into cost and profit centres which enable the management to analyse the performance of each part of the organization. I think we can apply the Activity Based Costing here. Based on cost and profit centre we can draw detailed plan for allocation of resources. I am talking of Budgeting. These topics we learned in Accounting. UMMM.. what else then.
The next job of the decision maker could be to analyse the relationship between the cost and company's sales volume and profit. Well this can be done using Breakeven Analysis and then its Sensitivity Analysis. I am talking of the techniques we learnt in Operations Research. Why all these ? Because one of the important objective of business organization is to make profit other wise share holders will not be willing to leave their money invested in the comany that is not showing returns better than others. All the above techniques assist in both the short/long term decision making. The employees should understand that. There comes HRM.

Tring tring........ Kaanta laaga, hai rabba ......tring tring. My mobile rang. Its my friends call, asking me to get ready for dinner. You all have to wait for my wife to go to her MAYAKE again to let me ponder and share with you where can I apply my learnings in marketting here. Till then you all have no options but to wait. Good thoughts. I think we are learning to relate all the subjects to the business processes. Thank you IIM professors.
